A New Era of Artwork: What’s Different, Why, and What to Expect

Who doesn’t love a fresh start? That buzz of excitement when something new is on the horizon? Well, here I am, embracing that thrill and announcing a brand-new chapter in my artistic journey. Ironically, I used to hate change. Like, really hate it. I clung to my comfort zones like a kid clutching their favorite blanket.

Please tell me I’m not the only one with Charlie Brown’s Christmas on the brain!

But somewhere along the way, I learned to loosen my grip, and now I’m kind of obsessed with the process and excitement of change.

All that to say: a new “era” of my artwork is here. I’m diving headfirst into a creative transformation, and I couldn’t be more excited to take you along for the ride.

What’s Different

Finding my artistic voice has been a journey - and by “journey,” I mean the kind where you get lost, circle back, and wonder if you should have brought a map (That map doesn’t exist? Lol. Awesome). For years, I explored landscapes, nature scenes, and architecture, and while I loved those subjects, something was missing. It wasn’t until I fell in love with sailing and the sea that I finally found the missing piece.

Since spending time on the water, both physically and spiritually, I’ve experienced a depth of inspiration that I never expected. The ocean, with its vastness and mystery, reminds me of God’s grace and creativity in a way that is both humbling and awe-inspiring. It’s become my muse, my canvas, and my prayer all rolled into one.

So, here’s what’s changing and the inspirations behind it:

  • A Maritime Focus: My art is now rooted in the maritime world, where every wave, ship, horizon, and seashell seem to tell a story. Through mixed media techniques, I’m finally able to surface a part of my heart that feels like it’s been drowning.

  • Expressive Style: Thanks to a newfound creative journaling practice (and a little personal growth), I’ve loosened up in both life and art. My new work is bolder, more colorful, and unapologetically expressive. Think looser brushstrokes, new textures, and experimental materials like wood and epoxy. I can’t wait for you to see the results!

  • Your Encouragement: The feedback I’ve received on my maritime pieces has been a resounding, “Yes, this is it!” These affirmations have made this transition feel natural and right.

What to Expect

Now that I’ve “set the sails” on this new artistic course, here’e what’s on the horizon:

  • A Fresh Collection: While my unsold earlier originals are still available for purchase on my website, they’ll be in a designated section, and reproductions will no longer be available. Moving forward, I’ll be working in series, creating new pieces that tell cohesive stories and submitting them to publications and shows. And of course, these will be available for purchase on my website as well.

  • A Monthly Studio Newsletter: Launching in February (birthday month, woohoo!!), my email subscribers will get a behind-the-scenes look into the life of the studio, exclusive discounts, and early access to new work.

  • The Art of Life Membership: For those who want to grow their creativity and join a supportive community, I’m launching a membership program called Art of Life. It’ll be packed with resources, inspirations, tutorials, and a space to connect with fellow creatives.

Let’s Navigate This Together

This new era feels like a fork in the road - a little scary, but mostly thrilling. I hope you’ll continue to follow along and share in the anticipation of what’s ahead. I value your feedback, so be patient with me as I set these sails on a new tack (Pardon the nautical terminology. :)

Looking Ahead with Expectation,

Ruth Scego

P.S., Keep a weather eye on my social media for the official email list announcement - it’s coming within the month! And trust me, you won’t want to miss what’s in store.
