Update on Store Pricing
Hello, dear reader!
If you’ve been following my work and now find yourself here, I wanted to share an important update regarding the pricing in my online store—and to do so with clarity and transparency.
I’ve been pursuing this art practice for a while now. In the beginning, I intentionally kept my prices on the lower end. I was still finding my footing—testing suppliers, refining print formats, and learning what truly aligned with the vision I had for my work. And if I’m being honest, I was also hesitant to ask for what it was worth, even though it’s been my livelihood.
As my work and direction have become more established, it became clear that my pricing needed to evolve alongside it. After many hours of careful consideration (and yes—an extensive equation spreadsheet), I’ve updated my pricing system to be more sustainable, more consistent, and more reflective of the value of the work itself.
I want to share the reasons behind this change—not as an explanation to defend, but as a way to stay open and honest with those who support my work.
First and foremost: this is my living. Early on, I hadn’t fully accounted for all the small expenses that quietly add up—materials, packaging, fees, and the realities of shipping work across the country. In many cases, I was barely breaking even, and sometimes losing money on orders. In order to continue creating and offering this work long-term, it needed to become financially sustainable.
The quality of my work has grown over time. When you devote your life to refining a single craft, the value naturally deepens—the composition, the techniques, the materials, the care in curation. As I’ve incorporated more advanced methods and mediums, both the cost and the demand for the work have increased in tandem. I’m deeply grateful for that growth.
This updated pricing also allows me to expand what I offer. With a more balanced system in place, I can begin introducing items like stickers, postcards, mini prints, and other pieces that are priced in a way that truly reflects their value. I see these additions rounding out the studio experience and making it more accessible and inclusive—and I’m excited to share them with you soon!
Lastly, it gives me more breathing room to enhance the overall experience for those who continue to support my work. It allows me to offer thoughtful extras—freebies, thank-you gifts, and giveaways—that add meaning and value beyond the artwork itself.
I’m looking forward to watching this studio grow, and I’m incredibly thankful for your continued support. It truly means more than I can express.
With much anticipation,
Ruth 🌊
